Teacher Spotlight: Anna Touchstone

I was born in Huntsville, Alabama.
I studied music at Lipscomb University.
I like to watercolor, embroider, and go hiking and kayaking.
I have a lot of favorite music, but my current favorite is Mumford & Sons’ new album, Prizefighter.
My favorite thing to play is chamber music, especially from the Romantic and 20th century eras.
I got my start teaching at WO Smith/Nashville Community Music School. It is an amazing organiztion for
kids who come from financially disadvantaged homes in Nashville. The students pay 50 cents for lessons,
and are given an instrument. Some go on to college with music scholarships!!!!

Chewning School of Music – How do Summers work?

Dear students and parents, each Spring we often get asked these questions:

Q: How do lessons work in the summer?

A: The School is open year round, and we do not close during the summer.

Q: Do a lot of students quit during the summer?

A: Some students do withdraw, but we also get an influx of students in June as many parents want something fun to do for their child, and many continue their enrollment into the fall. A good number of these families are currently on our waiting list for prime spots that will be given up.

Q: How full is the School?

A: As of today (March 20), several teachers are sold out during the prime 3-7pm time slots. There are also teachers who are completely full with no openings.

Q: If we withdraw for the summer, can we keep our spot for Fall?

A: We will open the spot for new students. Lessons are first come, first served, so if you withdraw for the summer, we cannot guarantee that we will have a spot for you in the fall.

The Big Question for Parents and Students

Do you want to stay with the same teacher in the Fall and at the same time?

If the answer is YES there are 3 ways to do this:

1) Summer Make Up Lessons

We realize that some of you will go on vacation for a portion of the summer. By signing up for the summer group make ups, you can make up all of your lessons, and keep the same teacher and time for fall. Your make up credits NEVER expire. Most group make ups will be taught by the owner, Michelle Chewning. If you feel a private make up is best, we will offer up to 4 make ups for lessons missed during June and July as long as we have a 24 hour notice.

2) Sub Lease Your Spot

You can send a family member or friend in your place for the dates you will miss. Just let us know who is coming in your place and when.

3) Virtual Lessons

If you are out of town, but can make it to a computer or mobile device, you can still have your lesson at your regular time and day with your teacher. We are very excited about this popular option!

Each August we get calls from students who withdrew for the summer. They want to return to the same teacher, day and time, but the spot has been filled by another student.

If you LOVE your teacher, keep your spot by using the summer make ups, sub lease your spot, or take your lesson online. Mix and match any of these options to keep your lesson time.
