We teach all styles, including jazz, blues, rock, pop, classical, and contemporary music. Our instructors customize lessons to your goals—whether you want to play in school band, join a jazz ensemble, or simply enjoy playing your favorite songs.
How qualified are Chewning School of Music piano instructors?
At Chewning School of Music, we offer lessons giving the "Nashville Experience without the drive to Nashville!"Many of our teachers have their master's degrees, and have graduated from prestigious music schools including Belmont, Lipscomb, Berklee, MTSU, NYU, University of Michigan, University of Miami and California Institute of the Arts. With a combined 45+ years of teaching experience, our teachers also have recorded, toured, composed, directed and been published. Two of our teachers have regular gigs in Nashville, and one is signed with a local publishing company. Each instructor has a heart for teaching and a desire to help you achieve your goals.

What will I learn from saxophone lessons at the Academy?

You’ll learn the fundamentals of breath control, embouchure, tone production, fingering, sight reading, and theory—while also incorporating music you personally enjoy into your lessons.
Do I have to know how to read music?
No. Beginners are welcome!
Do I need a saxophone to learn the instrument?
No, you don’t need to own a saxophone before starting lessons. Our instructors will help guide you in choosing the right instrument and connect you with affordable rental or purchase options, so you can get started right away.
Are there saxophone recitals?
Absolutely! Unlike many other schools, we do not charge students a fee to perform. Admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends to share in the experience.
